Tyler Arboretum Trail Walk and Picnic
Sunday, September 21st
515 Painter Road, Media, PA
We'll meet at the Visitor's Center
Tyler Arboretum is a National Historic Register property and the oldest arboretum in the Northeast US. It has passed through eight generations of the Minshall/Painter/Tyler family beginning with its purchase from William Penn in 1681.
The Arboretum encompasses 650 acres of renowned plant collections, heritage and champion trees, historic buildings and 17 miles of hiking trails.
Nine Tree Houses are open seasonally.
We plan to walk one of the trails, which is about 2 miles of moderately difficult terrain and should take about 1.5 hours.
Then we'll break for a picnic lunch on the grounds, with everyone responsible for his/her own lunch, or groups of people may arrange to share food among themselves.
Those who want to do so can take another 1.5 hour hike or explore the tree houses and/or historic houses on the grounds of the arboretum.
As a family outing this is a great event for children who are old enough to enjoy the hike, which is about 2 miles.
There is a $9.00 admission charge for adults and a $5.00 admission charge for children under 15 years of age.
